Sample Business Plans
How many solo business owners fail to write a business plan each year? Many believe that because they are sole proprietors, they don't need to plan. You wouldn't travel across the country by yourself without a map, so why would you run a business without one? You might like the thought of adventure, but in the end, running a business without a plan is a risk that is not worth taking.
The mere process of writing a business plan helps you think through the crucial elements of running a business. It will help you make better decisions because you have thought them through beforehand. Instead of running blindly through a maze, you can plot a clear path that will lead you to become more profitable in a shorter period of time.
Getting Help Writing a Plan
You can choose to hire a consultant to help you write your plan, but don't allow him or her to do it for you. In the end, you are your business. You are better off receiving help from somebody and learning how to do it on your own. Your business consultant cannot be there to hold your hand every step of the way.
If you seek any type of funding for your business, you will need to follow a standard format. Sample templates or business plan software can guide you through the "proper" format. However, if you don't need to borrow money or provide information for investors, then you can include whatever aspects of a business plan you'd like, and leave out the ones that do not apply to your business.
